DESCRIPTION |
| |
Wen
Yu Jin Oblong or ovoid, slightly compressed or curved, the
two end tapering, 3.5-7cm long, 1.2-2.5cm in diameter. Externally
pale brown or greyish-brown, with irregular longitudinal wrinkles,
the raised longitudinal wrinkles pale in colour. Texture compact,
fracture greyish-brown and horny. Endodermis ring distinct.
Odour, slightly aromatic; taste, slightly bitter.
Huang
Si Yu Jin Fusiform, sometimes slender at one end, 2.5-4.5cm
long, 1-1.5cm in diameter. Externally brownish-grey or greyish-yellow,
with fine wrinkles. Fracture orange, but edges brownish-yellow
to brownish-red. Odour, aromatic; taste, pungent.
Gui Yu
Jin Long conical or oblong, 2-6.5cm long, 1-1.8cm in diameter.
Externally with sparse and shallow wrinkles or relatively
coarse reticulate wrinkles. Odour, slight; taste, slightly
pungent, bitter.
Lv Si
Yu Jin Long ellipsoid, rather stout, 1.5-3.5cm long, 1-1.2cm
in diameter. Odour, slight; taste weak.

Amenorrhea,
dysmenorrheal, distending or pricking pain in the chest and
abdomen; impairment of consciousness in febrile diseases,
epilepsy, mania; jaundice with dark urine. |

ADVICE |

1.Promoting
flow of Qi and removing blood stasis
This
drug can be used to treat distention and pain of the chest,
epigastrium and abdomen, dysmenorrhea, etc. due to stasis
of Qi and blood. It can be used in combination with Radix
Bupleuri,Rhizoma Cyperi, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Radix Paeoniae
Alba, etc.
2.Clearing
away heat from the heart to relieve depression
In treating
damp-warm disease,mental confusion due to phlegm and unconsciousness,
the drug is often used in combination with Rhizoma Acori Graminei,
Fructus Gardeniae, Talcum, ect. In treating epilepsy and mania
as result of mental confusion due to phlegm-heat, the drug
is often used in combination with Alumen or Rhizoma Cyperi,
Scolopendra, etc.
3.Cooling
blood to arrest bleeding
This disease
can be used to treat hematemesis, epistsxis, hematuria, retrograde
menstruation, etc.due to accumulation of blood-heat. It is
often used in combination with other drugs for cooling blood
to arrest bleeding such as Radix Rehmanniae, Cortex outan
Radicis, Fructus Gardeniae, etc.
In addition,
since this drug has cholagogic effect,it is often uesd in
combination with Herba Lysimachiae, Herba Artemisiae Scopariae,
Fructus Gardeniae, etc. to treat cholecystitis and jaundice.
The drug is also commomly used to treat hepatalgia caused
by cirrhosis, chronic hepatitis, hematuria seen in renal tuberculosis,
and "encephalitis B" and "epidemic encephalitis" which are
manifested by coma, schizophrenia and mania.
