DESCRIPTION |
| |
Rounded
slices shrunken and uneven, 1-2.5 cm in diameter, 2-4 mm thick.
Externally red, wrinkled, with small greyish-white spots.
Pulp dark yellow to pale brown. Transverses slices of the
middle part showing 5 pale yellow kerns, mostly fallen off,
and loculi hollowed. Some slices exhibiting a slender fruit
stalk or remains of calyx. Odour, slightly aromatic; taste,
sour and slightly sweet.

INDICATIONS |
| |
Stagnation
of undigested meat with epigastric distension, diarrhea and
abdominal pain; amenorrhea due to blood stasis, epigastric
pain or abdominal colic after childbirth; heraial pain; hyperlipemia.
Fructus Crataegi (charred) Has more digestant action and is
particularly useful for stagnation of undigested meat and
diarrhea with inadequate discharge from the bowels. |

1.Promoting
digestion and removing stagnated food
In treating
stagnation of food or greasy food, distention of chest and
abdomen, infantile dyspepsia due to improper feeding, etc.
the drug is often used in combination with Fructus Hordei
Germinatus, Massa Fermentata Medicinalis, Semen Raphani, etc.
2.Activating
blood circulation and removing blood stasis
In treating
dysmenorrhea, postpartum abdominal pain, leukorrhea, etc.
due to stasis of blood, the drug is often used in combination
with Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong,
Rhizoma Corydalis, Herba Leonuri, 30g of the carbonized drug
are prescribed. Take the decoction mixed with brown sugar
and urine of a boy under 12 years old.
In addition,
this drug also has the effect of activating blood circulation
and promoting measles eruptions and can be used in combination
with Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae to treat retarded eruption
seen at the initial stage of measles with such manifestations
as stasis of Qi and blood or indigestion. In recent years,
the drug is used in combination with Semen Cassiae to treat
hypertension. The drugs are infused in boiling water with
sugar and the water is drunk everyday instead of tea. The
drug can also be used to treat coronary heart disease, hyperlipemia
and bacillary dysentery.
