ACTIONS AND INDICATIONS
 

1.Activating blood circulation to relieve pain

In treating traumatic injury, stasis of blood, painful swelling or muscular contraction, this drug is often used in combination with Resina Commiphorae Myrrhae, Resina Draconis, Flos Carthami, etc. The drug can also be used to treat angina pectoris due to stasis of blood in the heart, and gastralgia, abdominal pain, dysmenorrhea, postpartum abdominal pain, etc due to stasis of blood. This drug has strong power of relieving pain, and therefore is quite effective against pain due to stasis of blood seen in internal medicine, gynecology, surgery, traumatology, etc. It is a main drug used in surgery and traumatology blood circulation and removing blood stasis such as Resina Commiphorae Myrrhae.

2.Subduing swelling and promoting tissue regeneration

This drug can be used to treat carbuncle, phlegmon, painful swelling or ulceration which does not heal over a long time. It may be taken orally and is often used in combination with Resina Commiphorae Myrrhae, Realgar, Moschus, etc. For External application, the powder made of it and Resina Commiphorae Myrrhae is applied to the affected area, which is then covered with plaster.

3.Relieving rigidity of muscles and joints

This drug can be used to treat muscular contraction seen in arthralgia, and is often used in combination with drug for dispelling wind and removing dampness such as Rhizoma seu Radix Notopterygii, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, etc.

  Usually, 3-6g of the drug is used in decoction. Proper amount of the drug can be used in external treatment.
