DESCRIPTION |

Fusiform,
8-12 mm long, 3-4 mm in diameter. Externally pale yellow,
dorsally enveloped in lemma, 5-veined, with a long awn broken
or fallen; ventrally subtended by palea, with a longitudinal
furrow after removal of lemma and pales; the budlet and the
fibrous root grown at the base of the radicle, the budlet
long lanceolate-linear, about 5 mm long, the fibrous roots
fine and curved. Texture hard, fracture white, starchy. Odourless;
taste slightly sweet.

ADVICE |

1.Invigorating
the stomach and distention and stuffiness of the epigastrium
and abdomen due to stagnation of food, the drug is often used
in combination with Fructus Crataegi, Massa Fermentata Medicinalis,
etc.
In treating
vomitting of milk in infants due to dyspepsia, the drug alone
can be decocted and taken.
2.Comforting
the liver and stopping milk secretion
In treating
distention and stuffiness of the epigastrim and abdomen, belching,
etc. due to stagnation of liver-Qi, the drug is often used
in combination with Fructus Meliae Toosendan, Pericarpium
Citri Reticulatae,etc.
In treating
distention and pain of the breast due to accumulation, 60--120g
of the crude drug can be decocted and taken.
