ACTIONS AND INDICATIONS
 

1.Reducing intense heat and removing toxics or virulent heat:

To treat skin pyogenic infections due to damp-heat, mumps, etc., its powder mixed with vegetable oil can be used; to prevent epidemic disease during the time when the epidemic disease is communicated, it can be dipped into the drinking water with Rhizoma Acori Graminei, Rhizoma Atractylodis, Realgar, etc.; to prevent or treat measles, 10g of the drug and 15g of Retinervus Luffae Fructus can be Decocted as a drink.

2.Cooling blood-heat to arrest bleeding:

To treat metrorrhagia or spot vaginal bleeding or uterine bleeding after labor, its carbonized form can be used with Herba Ecliptae, Colla Corii Asini, etc.; besides, it can be used in treating bloody dysentery, bloody stools, etc.

3.Killing parasites and removing stagnation of food:

To treat ascariasis, enterobiasis, teniasis, ancylostomiasis, etc., with abdominal pain, itching of the anus or pruritus over the anal region, it is used with drugs having effects of killing intestinal parasites.

Besides, for preventing influenza, 10g of the drug are decocted and taken per day, or 1.5-3g of the drug taken with water three times a day, or used with Flos Lonicerae, Radix Glycyrrhizae in making decoction. In preventing epidemic meningitis, it can be used with Radix Glycyrrhizae, Flos Chrysanthemi Indici in decoction for 3-7 days.

4.5-9g of the drug are used in making decoction; to eliminate virulent epidemic evils the crude drug is to be used, while to arrest bleeding the carbonized one is used.
