DESCRIPTION |
| |
Irregular
fusiform or cylindrical, slightly curved or twisted.5-25 cm
long.0.5-2 cm in diameter. Externally grayish-brown, brown
or dark purple, rough, with longitudinal wrinkles, transverse
fissures and rootlet scars; Texture hard, fracture relatively
even, bark with numerous yellowish-white to yellowish-brown
woolly fibres, wood yellow or yellowish-brown and approximately
arranged radially. Slices irregularly rounded or elliptical.
2-5 mm thick; cut surface purplish-red or brown. Odourless
;taste, slightly bitter and astringent.

1.Cooling
blood to treat hematemesis, epistaxis, hematuria, metrorrhagia
and metrostaxis, etc.
It is often used in combination with Radix Rubiae. Nodus Nelumbinis
Rhizomatis, etc. In treating hemafecia, hemorrhoid with bleeding,
dysentery with blood, etc., the drug is often used in combination
with Rhizoma Bletillae, etc.
2.Subduing
swelling and relieving pain
This
drug can be used to treat scald and burns. Since this drug
has the effect of astringing blood and purging fire, it is
an important drug for scald and burns. The crude drug is ground
into powder, mixed with sesame oil and applied to the local
area. This can reduce exudate, relieve pain and speed up healing.
Alternatively, 30g of the drug, 30g of crude Radix et Rhizoma
Rhei and 1.5g of Borneolum Syntheicum are ground into powder,
mixed with sesame oil and applied to the local area. In treating

Sanguiin H-1, H-2, H-3, Methyl6-O-galloyl-ß-D-glucoside,
3-O-Galloylprocyanidin, 3,3',4-TriO-methylellagic acid, ect.
Among which Sanguiin (dimeric ellagitannin) H-6 shows inhibiting
effect on the activity of DNA topoismerase, so it may have
some anti cancer effect.
