Loquat Leaf is the dried leaf of Eriobotrya japonica (Thunb.)Lindl. (Fam. Rosaceae).

herb DESCRIPTION
 

Oblong or obovate, 12~30 cm long, 4~9 cm wide. Apex acute, base cuneate, margin sparsely serrate and entire near base. Upper surface grayish-green, yellowish-brown or reddish-brown, relatively smooth; lower surface densely yellow tomentose, midrib on lower suiface distinctly prominent, lateral veins pinnate; petioles very short, brownish-yellow tomentase. Texture leathery and fragile, easily broken. Odourless; taste, slightly bitter.

REFERENTIAL ADVICE
 

1.Resolving phlegm and relieving cough

This drug can be used to treat cough and asthma due to lung heat, bitter taste, dry throat, etc. This drug is bitter in taste, neutral or slightly cool in nature, and is characterized by its descending function. Therefore, it can be used to purify and descend lung-Qi so as to resolve phlegm and relieve cough. It can be used in combination with Radix Adenophorae Strictae, Cortex Mori Radicis, Fructus Gardeniae, etc. In treating whooping cough, the drug can be used in combination with Radix Stemonae, Bulbus Allii, etc.

2.Sending down adverse ascending of Qi to stop vomitting

In treating nausea and vomitting due to adverse ascending of stomach-Qi, the drug can be used in combination with Rhizoma Pinelliae, Poria, etc. In treating vomitting due to stomach-heat, the drug can be used in combination with Caulis Bambusae in Taeniam, Exocarpium Citri Grandis, and Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens.
