Origin
The drug consists of the white stalk of the perennial herbaceous plant, Allium fistulosum L.(famlily Liliaceae); usually the fresh stalk near the root is used as medicine.
Distribution
It is mainly produced in Northeast and the Northern part of China.
Nature and Affinity
Pungent to the taste, warm in nature, and distributed to the Lung and Stomach Chammels.
Caution
It can not be taken with honey.

ACTIONS AND INDICATIONS
 

1. Promoting perspiration to disperse the evils from superficies

It is often combined with Semen Sojae Praeparatum or Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens for cold due to invasion by cold-wind, especially at the beginning stage of a mild one.

2. Dispelling evil cold from te interior and regulating Yang

It is often combined with Rhizoma Zingiberis and Radix Aconiti Praeparata for the treatment of cold syndrome in the interior due to invasion by abundance of evil Yin-cold, accompanied with adverse rising of asthenia heat Yang, which is characterized by cold limbs, watery stools, flushed face and thready pulse; and for epigastric or abdominal pain due to retention of cold and stagnation of Qi, of retention of urine, the stir-baked drug can be applied on umbilicus or lower abdomen for warming the local region.

ADMINISTRATION AND DOSAGE
  Generally, 3-9g or 3-5 pieces of the drugs are used for decoction; a proper amount of the srugis used for local administration.

REMARKS
  A paste of this fresh herb with hoey is used as ointment for abssscesses and pus-infections; a decocton with fresh hinger-root and raw sugar is highly effective in elininating wind-chills.
