Aggregates of masses, in irregular masses, or slightly subsquare, frequently with angularities. Greyish-black or brown; streak black, with luster of metal. Texture hard and heavy, fracture uneven. Magnetic. Odour, earthy; tasteless.

  To subdue hyperactivity of the liver, to improve hearing and eyesight, to calm the nerves, and to alleviate dyspnea.

INDICATIONS
 

Dizziness, blurring of vision, tinnitus, impairment of hearing, palpitation, insomnia, dyspnea due to diminished function of the kidney.

REFERENTIAL ADVICE
 

1.Suppressing Yang hyperactivity to calm the mind

In treating dizziness, headache, palpitation, insomnia, vexation, epilepsy, etc. due to deficiency of Yin and hyperactivity of Yang, the drug is often used in combination with Cinnabaris.

2.Improving the functions of eye and ear

In treating tinnitus, deafness, poor vision, etc. due to deficiency of the liver and kidney, the drug can be used in combination with Rhizoma Rehmanniae Praeparatae, Fructus Corni, Fructus Schisandrae, etc.

3.Helping inspiration to relieve asthma

In treating senile asthma due to deficiency of kidney-Qi, the drug can be used in combination with Rhizoma Rehmanniae Praeparatae, Fructus Corni, Rhizoma Dioscoreae,etc..
