DESCRIPTION |
| |
Oblate
or conical, 1.5~3.5 cm high, base 1.5~3 cm in diameter. Externally
pale yellowish-brown or pale reddish-brown, with slightly
dented reticulate furrow, and a rounded concave micropyle
in the centre of the base, by side with an obvious scar-shaped
hilum. Texture hard, uneasily broken; fracture showing marble-like
striations alternated with brown testa and white endosperm.
Odour, slight; taste, astringent and slightly bitter.

1.Destroying
paracites and removing food stagnancy
The drug
can be used in treating various intestinal parasitic diseases
such as teniasis, ascariasis, enterobiasis, fasciolopsiasis,
etc., with better therapeutic effect on teniasis.It can also
be used in combination with other anthelmintics.
2.Descending
the adverse flow of Qi and loosing the bowels
The drug
can be used in treating stagnation of food and stasis of Qi,
abdominal distention and pain, constipation, or tensmus following
diarrhea or dysentery, etc., and is often used in combination
with Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, Radix Aucklandiae,etc.
3.Inducing
diuresis to alleviate edema.
The drug
can be used in treating flaccidity of lower limbs and is often
used in combination with Fructus Perillae, fructus Euodiae,
Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens, etc. In addition, the drug can
also be used in treating malaria.
