Origin
Densefruit Pittany Root-bark is the dried root bark of Dictamnus dasycarpus Turcz. (Fam. Rutaceae).
Nature and Affinity
It is bitter in taste and cold in nature, and is distributed to the Spleen, Stomach and Urinary Bladder Channels.

herb DESCRIPTION
 

Quilled, 5~15 cm long, 1~2 cm in diameter, 2~5mm thick. Outer surface greyish-white or pale greyish-yellow, with fine longitudinal wrinkles and rootlet scars, frequently with small protruding granular dots; inner surface almost white, with fine longitudinal wrinkles. Texture fragile, dusting on breaking, fracture uneven and somewhat lamellar, when outer layer peeled off, numerous glittering small spots observed on exposuring to light. Odour, muttony; taste, slightly bitter.

Skin inflammation with yellowish watery discharge, eczema, rubella, tinea, scabies; acute rheumatic arthritis; jaundice with dark urine.

Clearing away evil heat and resolving dampness, dispelling wind and relieving itching.

For the treatment of suppurative inflammation of skin due to damp-heat, urticaria or scabies or ringworm, pruritus, etc., it is often combined with Radix Sophorae Flavescentis, Periostracum Cicadae, Fructus Kochiae, Radix Ledebouriellae, etc.; for pruritus vulvae with leukorrhagia, with Radix Sophorae Flavescentis, Fructus Cnidii and Pericarpium Zanthoxyli for wash.

Besides, it can also be used to treat jaundice or arthragia due to damp-heat, etc..
