DESCRIPTION |

Somewhat
ellipsoidal, one end relatively acute and the other end obtuse,
1.5~2.5 cm long, 1~2 cm wide, about 1 cm thick. Externally yellowish-white
or pale brownish-yellow, smooth, with 2~3 ribs. Mesotesta(shell)
bony and hard. Endotesta membranous. Kernel broadly ovoid or
ellipsoidal, one end pale brown and the other end golden-yellow;
transverse section yellow, gelatinized in the outer part, and
pale yellow or pale green in the inner part, stachy, with a
fissure in the centre. Odourlee; taste, sweet, slightly bitter. |

1.
Astringing the lung to relieve asthma
This drug can be used to treat profuse sputum, shortness of
breath, cough and asthma which are due to internal accumulation
of phlegm-heat. It is often used in combination with Herba
Ephedrae, Semen Armeniacae Amarum, Radix Scutellariae, etc.
2. Treating leucorrhea and eliminating turbidity
In treating leucorrhea with yellow and sticky discharge due
to damp-heat, the drug is often used in combination with Cortex
Phellodendri, Rhizoma Dioscoreae, etc. In treating chronic
stranguria with turbid urine without pain, parched Semen Ginkgo
and parched Rhizoma Dioscoreae are ground into fine powder
and 10 g of the powder is to be taken at a time, 3 times a
day.
Besides, the drug also has the effect of arresting polyuria.
The roasted drug can be chewed as a treatment for polyuria.
