DESCRIPTION |

Flattened-ellipsoidal
or flattened-ovoid, 8~13 mm long, 6~9 mm wide, about 7 mm thick.
Externally pale yellowish-white or pale yellow, smooth, somewhat
lustrous, with a white, prominent, eyebrow-shaped caruncle at
the edge of one side. Texture hard. Testa thin and brittle,
cotyledons 2, plump, yellowish-white. Odour, slight; taste,
weak, bean-like on chewing. |

1.
Invigorating the spleen to arrest diarrhea
In treating diarrhea or abnormal leukorrhea due to deficiency
of the spleen, the drug is often used in combination with
drugs for invigorating the spleen such as Rhizoma Atractylodis
Macrocephalae, Rhizoma Dioscoreae, etc. The drug can also
be parched and ground into powder to treat abnormal leucorrhea
with reddish discharge, 6 g of the powder being used as a
dose.
2. Removing summer-heat and resolving dampness
In treating vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain caused by
summer--heat and dampness, equal amount of the drug and Herba
Agastachis can be ground 'into powder and 6 g of the powder
is to be taken with water as a dose. In preventing and treating
summer-heat diseases, the drug can be used in combination
with Herba Agastachis, Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis and Radix
Glycyrrhizae.
